Oxford Venture Management was founded in 1987 as a venture consultancy, offering a blend of practical help, guidance and management support to assist small to medium sized enterprises, in the United Kingdom and in the United States, through the different stages of their growth.

Our consultants have many years of experience in successfully building technology-based businesses in the electronics, medical device and software sectors.

Our network of associates and business contacts means that even in circumstances where we might be unable to help you ourselves, it is likely that we know someone who can.

 

 

Our Executive Directors

John Laurie

John Laurie

John Laurie has been involved in the management and on the board of many technology companies over the past 30 years. 

In 1972, John was Finance Director, then became Managing Director of Potter Instruments Limited for seven years.   He then joined the Oxford Instruments Group plc, as Group Financial Controller, for three years, before they went public; and was then on the board of, and looked after the overseas subsidiaries and the medical division for four years.   He was Vice-President of their USA holding company, and CEO of their medical operations in Florida and Holland.

In 1982 whilst with Oxford Instruments, John, with a group of colleagues, bought out Newport Components Limited from them.   It was in 1987 that he set up and ran the Oxford Ventures Group Limited. 

In 1990, John took over as CEO of Newport Components, developed it into Newport Technology Group, acquiring other companies and technologies, and setting up a manufacturing subsidiary in Guangzhou, China.   In 2000, the Group was demerged, the components and sub-assembly divisions sold to US buyers.   The remaining divisions were spun out and Suntech Medical Group Limited and NDSL Group Limited were formed.

Currently, John is non-executive Chairman of Suntech Medical Group Limited, NDSL Group, Antex Limited, Novarix and TSC Limited (Hong Kong), as well as being on the board of a number of other private companies.

 

John Scott

John Scott

John Scott is a chartered accountant with a degree in Economics and Accountancy from Manchester University.  After gaining both his ACA and ATII qualifications with Clark Whitehill, John joined BTG plc as an investment executive specialising in IT Hardware and Software and Telecommunication related investments.

In 1987 he moved to Sydney and was a main board executive director of a quoted private equity investment company, Strategic Capital Corporation, where he was responsible for sourcing and making investments, taking an active hands-on role in investee companies and managing investment realisations.  He was also a non-executive director on the board of another quoted venture capital company in Melbourne.

Since then, he has been actively involved with growth businesses in both the UK and Australia with David Sasson & Partners in Sydney and Singer & Friedlander Corporate Finance in London and Bristol, advising on mergers, acquisitions, disposals and going public through an IPO.

He joined OVM in 2004 following the completion of a successful earn-out of a Management Buy-In, as Group Finance Director of ISG Occupancy Ltd.   He is the Investment Director of Oxford Ventures Group, CEO of Novarix Ltd, a founder shareholder and CFO of Nice4Work Ltd, Company secretary to Antex and was an adviser to DTS Mechelec in China for seven years.
